Amazon has become the default source for many shoppers, but when it comes to home decor, and especially art, most head to a more specialized store. Possibly because of this, great deals can be found on Amazon. We particularly like this world map print by Michael Tompsett, but there’s lots more selections here.

We know you know the basics. There’s a brick in your toilet and a low flow shower head in your shower. But you’re still not satisfied. Whether it’s your impact on the environment, the cost of your water bill, or concerns of a well running dry, you still want to use less. This is about more than the basics, ways to save really significant amounts of water in ways you never considered.

1. Ladybug Water-Saving Shower-Head Adapter

Evolve Showerheads provides an adapter that works differently than you expect. Imagine your daily shower routine – turn the water on, test it to find it’s too cold, get distracted by kids or pets, and come back a few minutes later to find the room filled with steam. This simple $24 adapter fits between your shower head and shower arm and monitors the heat of the water flowing through it. When it reaches bathing temperature, the flow of water flows to a trickle, letting you know the water is ready and saving you water and money. A simple flip of the switch and you’re ready to begin. A family of 3 who shower daily and save one minute of water use with this adapter could save 2700 gallons of water per year and up to $70 in utility bills!

2. Point-of-Use Water Heater

If the adapter above isn’t extreme enough for you, you need a point of use water heater. This provides instant hot water at whatever location you choose to install it. No more waiting for the water to warm up at regularly used sinks. The savings individually will be small, but over time will certainly add up.

3. Dual Flush Conversion

A dual flush conversion kit provides the option of a quick flush or full flush. A quick flush can be used for most flushes and uses 70% water than a conventional flush. Additionally, the flapper valve is note used, removing a prime source of leaks in conventional toilet systems. Installation takes under 10 minutes and the cost of the kit is currently under $20, so with savings of up to 15,000 gallons per year there’s no reason you not make the switch.

4. Drip and Micro Sprayer Kit

If you’re using sprinklers to irrigate a garden or orchard, the majority of water is being lost to evaporation. A drip irrigation system remedies this by placing the water into the soil right where you need it. This kit from DIG Irrigation provides enough tuning and accessories to cover a 700 square foot area, and installation is a breeze. Made in the USA is a bonus.

5. Rain Barrel

A rain barrel provides a simple and attractive way to collect rain water collected from a rooftop for future use. Check your local restrictions, but where permitted, a rain barrel will enhance the exterior decor of your home, and provide a completely free source of water for plants and lawns. The barrel generally collects water from a shortened rain spout, but in areas with heavy rain, kits are available which will redirect the flow away from the house foundations in the event the barrel fills.

Cute! Designer Cynthia Steffe, one of America’s most directional designers, presents Cluny, her new contemporary women’s wear collection. Steffe brings a fresh approach to the market by combining her signature feminine aesthetic with a street edge chic. Vintage inspired details yield a truly unique collection. Hence the Cluny – one of the first laces crafted by hand that has survived though time and remains highly desirable to this day. Our favorite is the Macrame Bodice Shift

Vizio, best known for providing the majority of TV inventory at Walmart, has branched out into the Thin and Light market. It’s first effort has some rough edges, figuratively as well as literally, but is a worthy competitor to the Macbook Air. Weighing in at just 3.39 pounds and only .67 inches at it’s thickest point, but also sporting an Intel Core i5 Processor (Ultra low voltage, which means lower power but less performance than the standard i5) and a 128 GB solid state drive, the machine strikes a good balance between portability, price, and performance. It certainly doesn’t hurt that it’s a very attractive machine. Where it falls behind Apple’s product is the general finish as well as the responsiveness of the touchpad and the feel of the keyboard. Vizio is a US based company, and while all it’s manufacturing is done overseas, it is good to see a smaller US corporation step up with a product that can compete with the best of the best in almost every way.
